Rotavirus antigens are viral proteins present on the surface or within the structure of rotaviruses. These antigens play critical roles in virus structure, infectivity, immune recognition, and serve as key targets for diagnostics and vaccine development. Key antigenic proteins include VP4 (spike protein involved in cell entry and determining P-type serotype), VP6 (forms the middle capsid layer, highly immunogenic and used for species identification), and VP7 (glycoprotein forming part of the outermost layer, determines G-type serotype along with VP4).
