Rotavirus antigen proteins are viral proteins expressed by Rotavirus that are key targets for the host immune system and vaccine development. The most important antigens are the surface proteins VP4 and VP7 which mediate cell entry and determine viral serotype. VP6 is a highly conserved and antigenic protein used in diagnostics. Other non-structural proteins such as NSP4 also contribute to pathogenesis. Vaccines target these antigens to induce neutralizing antibodies and protect against infection.
Vaccines stimulate the production of neutralizing antibodies against VP4 and VP7, preventing viral attachment and entry into host cells.
