Rotavirus Surface Antigen VP7 (VP7)

Target
VP7
Molecular classification
Glycoprotein, Viral Capsid Protein, Surface Antigen
01

Overview

Rotavirus surface antigen VP7 is a major glycoprotein component of the outer capsid layer of rotaviruses. It plays a critical role in viral infectivity, immune recognition, and serves as a principal target for neutralizing antibodies during infection. VP7 forms trimers stabilized by calcium ions, and its removal leads to dissociation into monomers, which is an essential step for viral uncoating and cell entry. It is highly immunogenic and a promising candidate for subunit vaccine design.
