Overview

RPA-interacting protein (RPAIN) is a nuclear transport factor that interacts specifically with replication protein A (RPA), a critical single-stranded DNA-binding protein complex involved in DNA replication, repair, and recombination[1][3][5]. RPAIN mediates the nuclear import of RPA and likely helps regulate the assembly or availability of RPA complexes within the nucleus. Through its interaction with RPA, which is extensively documented as a platform for recruiting numerous DNA damage response and repair factors[1][2][3][5], RPAIN may influence genome stability processes indirectly. While RPAIN itself is not generally considered a direct therapeutic target, its role as a chaperone or transporter for a key DNA metabolic complex may make it relevant for understanding pathways of genomic maintenance and DNA repair. Note: - RPA-interacting protein (RPAIN) should not be confused with the replication protein A complex (RPA), which is a well-studied DNA-processing complex and a recognized platform for DNA repair and checkpoint pathways[1][2][3][5]. - No approved drugs are known to target RPAIN directly, and it is not established as a disease biomarker or exposed therapeutic target. Its biological role is supportive and regulatory via interactions with core genome stability factors.
