Overview

RPH3AL antisense RNA 1 (RPH3AL-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene transcribed from the antisense strand at the RPH3AL locus on chromosome 17 (17p13.3). Like other natural antisense transcripts, it is presumed to modulate the expression of its sense gene (RPH3AL), most likely through RNA-RNA interaction mechanisms that regulate translation or stability of the target mRNA. RPH3AL-AS1 itself is classified as a non-coding RNA and does not encode a protein product. There is no published evidence for direct therapeutic targeting, involvement in disease, or known pharmacological interactors of RPH3AL-AS1 to date. Its primary role is thought to be regulation of gene expression at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level, but detailed functional characterization is lacking.
