Overview

RPL14 pseudogene 6 (RPL14P6) is a processed pseudogene of the human ribosomal protein L14 (RPL14) gene. Ribosomal protein pseudogenes are non-functional copies of ribosomal protein genes dispersed throughout the genome. They arise from reverse-transcribed mRNA and integration into new genomic locations, resulting in sequences highly similar to the parent gene but lacking the regulatory elements or open reading frame needed to produce a functional protein[2][3]. RPL14P6 is one of several pseudogenes associated with RPL14, which normally encodes a component of the large (60S) subunit of the ribosome[1], but the pseudogene itself does not participate in protein synthesis or known cellular functions.

Biological functions

Other (Does not have a known biological function; as a pseudogene, it does not encode a functional protein[2])
03

Disease associations

Other (No direct disease association; however, the accumulation and regulation of pseudogenes can sometimes be relevant in cancer or gene expression studies generally, but this has not been specifically reported for RPL14P6[2])
