Overview

RPL30 antisense RNA 1 (*RPL30-AS1*, also known as *KB-1208A12.3*, *AP003352.1*) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene transcribed from the antisense strand relative to the RPL30 protein-coding gene. This transcript does not encode a protein, but instead has regulatory properties typical of antisense RNAs. RPL30 antisense RNA 1 is a long non-coding antisense RNA gene located on the opposite strand of the RPL30 gene. As with other natural antisense transcripts, it may regulate the expression of its corresponding sense gene (RPL30) through mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, chromatin modification, or the formation of RNA-RNA duplexes that affect mRNA stability or translation. Antisense RNAs are increasingly recognized as important regulators of gene function and epigenetic landscapes, but the specific role and downstream effects of RPL30-AS1 remain largely uncharacterized. It is not considered a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. If more detailed disease associations, drug interactions, or biomarker roles are needed, targeted experimental or clinical profiling would be required, as existing literature provides very limited functional data for RPL30-AS1 itself.
