Overview

RPL34 divergent transcript (RPL34-DT), also known as RPL34-AS1 among other aliases, is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that is significantly upregulated in certain cancers, including glioma and esophageal cancer. Unlike protein-coding genes, RPL34-DT does not encode a protein, but it plays a functional role in cancer cell biology by promoting cell migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), processes critical for tumor invasion and metastasis. In glioma, knockdown of RPL34-DT impedes migration and reduces EMT marker expression (notably via effects on β-catenin), highlighting its involvement in Wnt/β-catenin signaling and its potential as a therapeutic target or biomarker in oncology. Currently, there are no known drugs specifically targeting RPL34-DT, nor is it associated with established safety concerns.
