RPS27A pseudogene 19 (RPS27AP19) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S27a (RPS27A) gene. Pseudogenes of RPS27A are numerous within the human genome, but do not typically produce proteins or participate directly in cellular functions. Unlike the functional RPS27A gene, which encodes a ribosomal protein with roles in ribosome assembly, protein synthesis, and extra-ribosomal effects (including cancer biology and cell cycle regulation), RPS27AP19 does not encode an active enzyme, receptor, nor does it have a validated function in health or disease[1][3][7]. It is generally considered a genomic artifact resulting from evolutionary duplication and is not considered a therapeutic or diagnostic target.
