RPS27A pseudogene 20 (RPS27AP20) is a human pseudogene that shows sequence homology to the functional RPS27A gene, which encodes ribosomal protein S27a—a ubiquitin–ribosomal fusion protein involved in ribosome function and often linked with cellular stress response and tumorigenesis[3][5]. However, RPS27AP20 itself lacks evidence for protein coding or biological activity and is classified as a non-functional processed pseudogene. There are no known biological, disease, or pharmacological roles for RPS27AP20, and it is not considered a therapeutic target. As with many ribosomal protein pseudogenes, it is found in the genome as a relic of gene duplication or retrotransposition events but is not believed to produce functional protein nor to have direct clinical relevance. RPS27AP20 is a pseudogene and does not encode a receptor, enzyme, or any functional protein[3][5]. Confusion might arise because some other RPS27A pseudogenes (e.g., RPS27AP5) have been shown to express protein variants in limited contexts[1][4]. There is no data supporting such a role for RPS27AP20. There is no evidence RPS27AP20 is a functional biological target, receptor, enzyme, or druggable entity. Its description as a "target" or "receptor" is not supported by current knowledge. It is not a therapeutic or pharmacological target. If you intended the protein-coding gene RPS27A or a different pseudogene with emerging function (such as RPS27AP5), please clarify, as their biological roles may differ[1][4].
