Overview

RPS3A pseudogene 13 (RPS3AP13) is a non-functional, processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S3A gene. Pseudogenes such as RPS3AP13 arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically do not produce functional protein products. There are multiple processed pseudogenes of the parent gene RPS3A in the human genome, but RPS3AP13 does not have a role as a therapeutic target, is not implicated in disease, and is not associated with known pharmacological agents. Occasionally, pseudogenes can have regulatory functions at the RNA level, but no such role has been clearly established for RPS3AP13[2][6][11].

Biological functions

Other (pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins; some pseudogenes may have regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as acting as decoys or regulators of their parent gene, but there is no specific evidence for RPS3AP13[6])
03

Disease associations

Other (no disease roles described for RPS3AP13 specifically; the parent gene, RPS3A, is associated in rare cases with certain diseases, but not the pseudogene[3])
