RPS3A pseudogene 18 (RPS3AP18) is a processed pseudogene located on chromosome 4q31.3, covering the region 4:152,551,277-152,552,364 (hg38 build). Pseudogenes such as RPS3AP18 arise from duplication or retrotransposition events involving the functional parental gene—in this case, ribosomal protein S3A (RPS3A). Being processed, RPS3AP18 lacks introns and usually cannot encode a functional protein. The presence of many ribosomal protein pseudogenes across the genome is typical due to the evolutionary history of ribosomal protein genes. RPS3AP18 is not known to have protein-coding capability, regulatory roles, or direct disease associations. It is not a drug target or biomarker.
