Overview

RPS3AP20 (RPS3A pseudogene 20) is a human processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S3A gene (RPS3A)[4][7][9]. Like other pseudogenes, RPS3AP20 shares sequence homology with its parental gene but is transcriptionally inactive or non-functional due to disablements such as premature stop codons or frameshift mutations[6]. It is classified as a pseudogene and does not encode a protein or have known biological function, druggability, or disease role. Pseudogenes like RPS3AP20 are considered part of genomic evolution and serve as markers for gene duplication and retrotransposition events but are not themselves therapeutic targets or functional elements in cellular processes[6][7]. Note: - RPS3AP20 should not be confused with the functional ribosomal protein S3A (RPS3A), which encodes a component of the small ribosomal 40S subunit[1][3][5]. - Pseudogenes such as RPS3AP20 are not viable drug targets because they lack protein products and biological activity[6][7]. There is no evidence of clinical, therapeutic, or diagnostic relevance for RPS3AP20.
