RPS3A pseudogene 33 (RPS3AP33) is a processed pseudogene related to the gene for 40S ribosomal protein S3a (RPS3A). As with other ribosomal protein pseudogenes, RPS3AP33 does not produce a functional protein and does not participate in cellular processes such as protein synthesis or signaling. Pseudogenes of ribosomal proteins are common in the human genome and are typically nonfunctional DNA sequences that arose from reverse-transcription and integration of mRNA from the parent gene. It is not a protein-coding gene and does not encode a functional molecule or receptor. There is no evidence for it being a therapeutic target or interacting with drugs.
