RPS3A pseudogene 48 is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome, officially designated by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC) with the symbol RPS3AP48. Unlike its parent gene RPS3A, which encodes a ribosomal protein involved in protein synthesis, RPS3AP48 does not encode a functional protein product. As a processed pseudogene, it is derived from retrotransposition of the functional RPS3A gene, but lacks coding potential and is not involved in canonical biological processes, disease association, or drug targeting. Its primary significance is for genomic annotation and comparative studies with functional ribosomal protein genes.
