Overview

RPS6KB2 antisense RNA 1 (RPS6KB2-AS1; also known as AP003419.16) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the RPS6KB2 gene, which encodes ribosomal protein S6 kinase B2. RPS6KB2-AS1 is implicated in the regulation of its adjacent protein-coding gene, potentially modulating gene expression through epigenetic and transcriptional mechanisms typical of antisense RNAs[3][1][2]. Elevated expression of RPS6KB2-AS1 has been observed in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and in models of TGF-β1-induced cellular senescence[1][5]. Its clinical significance currently lies in its potential utility as a biomarker for IPF and a molecular target for future therapies aimed at delaying aging-associated fibrotic progression[1][5]. There are no known approved drugs targeting this lncRNA or approved safety concerns directly associated with its modulation. RPS6KB2-AS1 functions primarily as a regulator rather than a direct drug target (receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.), and its molecular classification is as a long non-coding, antisense RNA[3][1][2].
