RRN3 RNA polymerase I transcription factor homolog pseudogene (ENSG00000284671) is a processed pseudogene of the RRN3 gene, which encodes a transcription factor essential for RNA polymerase I-dependent ribosomal RNA synthesis[1][7][4]. Unlike the protein-coding RRN3, the pseudogene does not produce a functional protein but may be transcribed into RNA. Emerging evidence suggests some pseudogenes can regulate the expression of their parental genes by competing for shared regulatory elements and acting as microRNA decoys or influencing mRNA stability[3][6]. However, there is no direct evidence that ENSG00000284671 plays an established role in human disease or is a validated therapeutic target. Confusion may arise due to the similarity of names between the functional RRN3 and its pseudogene, but only the protein-coding RRN3 is a recognized therapeutic target in cancer and cell growth disorders[4][7]. Essential caveat: For molecular targeting, mechanistic studies, or biomarker work, refer to the functional protein-coding RRN3, not the pseudogene ENSG00000284671.
