RRS1 antisense RNA 1 (RRS1-AS1, also called RRS1 divergent transcript or RRS1-DT) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene. It is expressed as an RNA molecule and does not encode a protein. RRS1-DT has been associated with atrial fibrillation in genetic studies, but its detailed molecular function and mechanism are not well-defined in the literature. It is classified as a regulatory RNA with putative roles in gene expression modulation, consistent with the general functions attributed to lncRNAs. No established roles as a drug target or biomarker are apparent, and there is no documentation of small-molecule or antibody drugs modulating this target. Notably, RRS1-DT should not be confused with the RRS1 protein (regulator of ribosome synthesis 1), which is an entirely different entity and essential for ribosome biogenesis—RRS1-AS1 is the antisense noncoding RNA transcript at the same genetic locus, potentially regulating RRS1 or neighboring genes, but it is not a receptor, enzyme, or classic therapeutic target.
