Ruminococcus is a polyphyletic genus of Gram-positive, strictly anaerobic, non-motile cocci within the phylum Firmicutes (class Clostridia)[1][2][3]. Members are best known for degrading plant cell wall polysaccharides such as cellulose and resistant starches.
