Ryanodine receptor 2 (RYR2)

Target
RYR2
Molecular classification
Ryanodine receptors, Intracellular ligand-gated ion channel
01

Overview

Ryanodine receptor 2 is an essential regulator of excitation–contraction coupling in heart muscle cells whose precise control ensures normal heartbeat rhythm; its dysfunction underlies several serious inherited heart diseases. It acts as the principal calcium-release channel on the sarcoplasmic reticulum membrane in cardiomyocytes, releasing stored Ca²⁺ into the cytosol upon electrical stimulation, which then initiates cardiac muscle contraction.
