Ryanodine Receptor 2 (RyR2) (RyR2)

Target
RyR2
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Calcium channel, Receptor
01

Overview

The ryanodine receptor type 2 (RyR2) is the primary calcium release channel located on the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) of cardiomyocytes. It mediates calcium-induced calcium release, a crucial process in excitation-contraction coupling, where a small influx of calcium triggers a much larger release of calcium from the SR, initiating muscle contraction. Dysregulation of RyR2 is implicated in various cardiac pathologies, making it a significant therapeutic target.
