Ryanodine receptor 3 (RyR3) is a calcium-activated calcium channel that mediates the release of Ca²⁺ from intracellular stores. It plays a role in controlling resting calcium ion concentration and participates in cytoplasmic Ca²⁺ signaling in various tissues. Unlike RyR1, RyR3 does not sustain excitation-contraction coupling on its own but may modulate it.
Ryanodine binds to RyR3, locking it into an open subconductance state at low concentrations or inhibiting it at higher concentrations.
