Overview

S-phase cancer associated transcript 1 (SCAT1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) encoded by the human genome and expressed primarily during the S-phase of the cell cycle. It is differentially expressed in various tumor types and acts as an independent prognostic biomarker, notably in lung and kidney cancers. SCAT1 participates in the regulation of crucial cancer cell hallmarks including cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, and apoptosis. Experimental depletion of SCAT1 in cancer cell models impairs cell proliferation, causes cell cycle arrest, and induces apoptosis, indicating its functional importance in oncogenesis. SCAT1 is part of a larger family of S-phase-enriched lncRNAs implicated in tumor progression and patient prognosis[1][3][4][5].
