Overview

S-phase cancer associated transcript 2 (SCAT2) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), also named CBX5-AS1, located on chromosome 12[1][5][9]. It is transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the CBX5 gene, which encodes heterochromatin protein 1 alpha (HP1α). While the specific biological functions of SCAT2 are still being elucidated, lncRNAs like SCAT2 can regulate gene expression by interacting with DNA, RNA, or proteins, affecting pathways such as cell cycle progression and cancer phenotype[3]. SCAT2 has been reported in cancer transcriptome analyses and is classified by authoritative sources as a cancer-associated lncRNA, but it is not currently known to be a direct target for any approved therapeutic drugs[5][9].
