Overview

S-phase cancer-associated transcript 6 (SCAT6), also known as lncRNA#32, lncRNA32, LUARIS, or “lncRNA upregulator of antiviral response interferon signaling,” is a member of a group of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) that exhibit S-phase-specific temporal expression and are linked with cancer phenotypes[5]. Studies of similar S-phase cancer-associated transcripts (SCATs) show they regulate cell cycle progression, proliferation, apoptosis, and survival in cancer cell lines, with depletion causing cell cycle arrest and increased apoptosis[5]. Although the synonym “lncRNA upregulator of antiviral response interferon signaling” suggests a role in interferon and immune response pathways, there is currently no direct evidence or literature confirming that SCAT6 (or LUARIS) specifically acts in the regulation of antiviral interferon signaling. There is also no evidence that this lncRNA is a validated or emerging therapeutic target, nor that it is targeted by any known drugs or used as a biomarker. Therefore, while SCAT6 is a cancer-associated lncRNA influencing fundamental cancer cell biology, much of the stated functional and mechanistic information for “LUARIS” or its immune signaling role is either unsubstantiated or missing in the literature.
