S phase cyclin A-associated protein in the endoplasmic reticulum pseudogene (ENSG00000259266) is a noncoding genomic element classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically lack protein-coding capacity due to disabling mutations. While historically considered “junk DNA,” some pseudogenes have emerging roles as regulators of gene expression through RNA-based mechanisms, such as acting as competitive endogenous RNAs or generating small interference RNAs. However, for the majority of pseudogenes—including this one—specific biological functions and disease associations remain undefined. Importantly, pseudogenes are not considered conventional therapeutic targets and are not associated with direct drug interactions.
