S-phase kinase-associated protein 1 (SKP1) is a core adaptor protein and a key component of the SCF (SKP1-CUL1-F-box) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex. This enzyme binds F-box proteins and facilitates ubiquitin-dependent proteolysis of various regulatory proteins, particularly those involved in cell cycle progression and signal transduction. SKP1 modulates levels of proteins such as cyclins and beta-catenin, and thereby influences cell cycle transitions, proliferation, and transcription. Due to its essential roles, SKP1 and the SCF complex are considered important targets in oncology and have been implicated in disease processes where proteostasis and cell cycle regulation are dysregulated[2][3][8][9].
