Overview

S-phase kinase-associated protein 1 pseudogene 2 (SKP1P2) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene in the human genome, so-named due to its sequence similarity to the functional SKP1 gene, which is a component of the SCF ubiquitin ligase complex involved in cell cycle progression and protein degradation. SKP1P2, also referred to as SKP1B or p19B, does not encode a functional protein and is not considered a therapeutic target or biomarker. While some pseudogenes have regulatory RNA functions in certain biological contexts (e.g., through small interfering RNAs), SKP1P2’s specific function, expression profile, and clinical relevance remain undefined[3][5][7][9].
