S-phase response pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

The S-phase response pseudogene (ENSG00000253707) is a non-functional segment of genomic DNA that has sequence similarity to a functional gene involved in the cell cycle/cyclin-related S-phase response, but it does not encode a functional protein product. Pseudogenes are typically remnants of genes that have lost their protein-coding ability due to disabling mutations (such as frameshifts or early stop codons). Because it is a pseudogene, S-phase response pseudogene serves no direct biological function as a protein or therapeutic target in humans. Such pseudogenes can sometimes complicate genomic studies due to their sequence similarity to functional genes, but there is no evidence this pseudogene produces functional RNA or protein, nor is it associated with human disease or therapy[2][3][4][5].
