Target intelligence / Profile preview
S100 calcium-binding protein A3 (S100A3) is a member of the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins, characterized by containing two EF-hand motifs. It has the highest cysteine content among S100 proteins and exhibits a high affinity for zinc in addition to calcium. S100A3 is highly expressed in human hair cuticle and is thought to play a role in calcium-dependent cuticle cell differentiation and the structure of the hair shaft and barrier, although its precise biological function remains unclear. Multiple S100 proteins are implicated in various cancers, and abnormal S100A3 expression has been reported in certain tumors, but it is not a prominent therapeutic target[1][2][7].
