Overview

S100 calcium-binding protein A6 (S100A6) is a member of the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins characterized by EF-hand motifs[1][2][4][5]. Highly expressed in select normal tissues and upregulated in various tumors, S100A6 functions intracellularly to modulate proliferation, apoptosis, cytoskeletal dynamics, and response to cellular stress[2][5]. It is also secreted, mediating effects through receptors such as RAGE and integrin β1, and is involved in secretion processes such as insulin and prolactin release[2]. S100A6 has been linked to cancer progression and metastasis and is used as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in several cancer types. No approved drugs directly target S100A6, but its biology makes it a candidate for future therapeutic targeting[2][3][5].
