S100A9, also known as MRP14 or calgranulin B, is a calcium-binding protein primarily expressed in myeloid cells. It forms heterodimers with S100A8 (calprotectin) and is involved in inflammation, immune response, and antimicrobial activity. It acts as a DAMP and regulates inflammatory processes via TLR4 signaling. Aberrant expression is linked to several diseases and represents a therapeutic target.
