Overview

SAE1 pseudogene 1 (SAE1P1) is a pseudogene of the SAE1 (SUMO1 activating enzyme subunit 1) locus[3]. Pseudogenes are genomic sequences that closely resemble functional genes but have lost their ability to encode a functional protein due to mutations, lack of regulatory elements, or genomic rearrangements[4][5]. SAE1 itself is a subunit in the SUMO-activating enzyme complex, participating in the post-translational modification process known as sumoylation, which regulates protein structure and localization[1]. However, SAE1P1 does not encode a functional protein and is not considered a biological or therapeutic target.

02

Mechanism of action

None. As above, pseudogenes are not drug targets and have no known pharmacological mechanisms[4][5].

03

Biological functions

Pseudogenes typically do not perform classical protein functions, but some may affect gene regulation or act as decoys for regulatory RNAs (rare exceptions)There is no evidence in the results for biological function specific to SAE1P1.
04

Disease associations

None. No direct associations with disease roles or any implication in pathological processes as a protein or regulatory element for SAE1P1 in the provided sources.
