Target intelligence / Profile preview
Sal-like 3 pseudogene (ENSG00000262885) is a non-protein-coding segment of DNA in the human genome that is homologous to the functional SAL-like 3 gene but lacks the ability to encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes, such as this one, typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and accumulate mutations, such as frameshifts or premature stop codons, which render them nonfunctional. While most pseudogenes do not produce functional products, a small subset may have regulatory roles, but there is no evidence this applies to the sal-like 3 pseudogene. Pseudogenes are not considered therapeutic targets and are generally annotated for genomic context and evolutionary studies rather than for direct research or therapeutic intervention.
