Sal-like protein 4 (SALL4) is a zinc finger transcription factor essential for the maintenance and self-renewal of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and hematopoietic stem cells. It regulates pluripotency by interacting with key factors like OCT4, NANOG, and SOX2, and modulates the expression of genes involved in development. SALL4 functions as an oncogene in various cancers, promoting cell proliferation, migration, and chemotherapeutic resistance. Mutations can cause developmental syndromes. It is considered an attractive target for anti-cancer therapies.
