Salmonella refers to a genus of bacteria, not a molecular target like a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. The genus comprises two species: *Salmonella enterica* and *Salmonella bongori*, with *S. enterica* further divided into six subspecies. While Salmonella bacteria do interact with host cells through specific virulence proteins, such as SipA (Salmonella invasion protein A), which manipulates host cell actin to facilitate bacterial entry, the bacterium itself is a pathogen, not a drug target in the traditional sense. If the goal is to develop therapeutics against Salmonella infection, the actual molecular targets would be specific Salmonella virulence factors (e.g., SipA, type III secretion system proteins) or bacterial enzymes, not "Salmonella cells" generically. Alternatively, if targeting host cells infected by Salmonella, the relevant targets would be human cell surface receptors or signaling molecules that Salmonella exploits.
