Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi Antigens (S. Typhi Antigens)

Target
S. Typhi Antigens
Molecular classification
Polysaccharide, Lipopolysaccharide, Protein, Capsular Polysaccharide, Surface Antigen
01

Overview

Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi antigens are key molecular structures on the surface of the bacterium Salmonella Typhi, which causes typhoid fever. These include the O-antigen (somatic antigen), H-antigen (flagellar antigen), and Vi antigen (capsular polysaccharide antigen). These antigens play crucial roles in immune recognition, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and vaccine development by enabling the bacterium to evade host immunity and establish infection. Detection of antibodies against these antigens is used in diagnostic tests, and the Vi antigen is used in effective parenteral vaccines. Structural diversity and phase-variable modifications affect diagnostic accuracy and vaccine efficacy.
