Overview

Serine/threonine-protein kinase SIK2 is a member of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) family and plays a pivotal role in regulating fatty acid oxidation, autophagy, immune response, glucose metabolism, and insulin signaling. It modulates the activity of transcription factors and is involved in T-cell development. SIK2 also plays a role in regulating glucose metabolism through control of the CRTC2-CREB function in white adipocytes and represses AKT/GSK3β/β-catenin signaling in gastric cancer. Due to its involvement in metabolic regulation and cancer-related pathways, SIK2 is a potential therapeutic target for metabolic disorders and certain cancers.
