SAM pointed domain-containing ETS transcription factor (SPDEF)

Target
SPDEF
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, ETS family, DNA-binding protein
01

Overview

SAM pointed domain-containing ETS transcription factor (SPDEF) is a protein encoded by the SPDEF gene and is a member of the ETS family of transcription factors. It is highly expressed in prostate epithelial cells, functions as an androgen-independent activator of the PSA promoter, and may be involved in regulating genes significant for prostate gland function and carcinogenesis. SPDEF is also associated with several tumor types, including prostate, breast, lung, and ovarian cancers, where its expression is often elevated. It is being studied both as a potential biomarker and as a possible, though currently undrugged, therapeutic target[2][4][8].
