Overview

SAP domain-containing ribonucleoprotein (SARNP) is a human protein encoded by the SARNP gene. It contains a SAP domain, which is known to mediate interactions with DNA and RNA, particularly single-stranded nucleic acids as well as scaffold/matrix attachment region DNA. SARNP plays a significant role in mRNA processing, nuclear export, and may influence cell cycle progression. It is a component of the TREX complex, which is responsible for coupling mRNA transcription, processing, and export from the nucleus. SARNP interacts with RNA helicases such as DDX39A and DDX39B, enhancing their RNA unwinding activity. Its expression can be upregulated in response to cytokine signaling, and a chromosomal translocation between SARNP and the myeloid/lymphoid leukemia gene resulting in a chimeric protein has been observed in acute myelomonocytic leukemia. Diseases genetically associated with SARNP include exudative glomerulonephritis and retinitis pigmentosa 13, although direct therapeutic targeting is not reported. SARNP is a nuclear protein and has been implicated in transcriptional and translational regulation, cell proliferation, metabolism, and oncogenesis
