Target intelligence / Profile preview
Alpha-sarcoglycan is a protein component of the sarcoglycan complex, which is part of the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex (DGC) in muscle cells. It plays a crucial role in maintaining muscle cell structure by stabilizing interactions between the cytoskeleton and the extracellular matrix. Mutations in the SGCA gene, encoding alpha-sarcoglycan, are associated with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2D (LGMD2D).
