Target intelligence / Profile preview
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a novel, zoonotic virus belonging to the family Coronaviridae. It is the causative agent of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which led to a global pandemic. SARS-CoV-2 is closely related to bat coronaviruses and likely originated from such sources. The virus primarily infects cells expressing high levels of ACE2. Transmission occurs mainly via respiratory droplets or direct contact with contaminated surfaces. Symptoms range from mild upper respiratory illness to severe pneumonia and multi-organ failure.
Various, including inhibition of viral RNA polymerase, protease inhibition, and neutralization of the spike protein.
