Overview

The S2 stem helix is a highly conserved region within the S2 subunit of the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) glycoprotein. The stem helix lies within the S2 subunit and plays a critical role in the conformational changes required for virus-cell membrane fusion. It acts as part of the machinery stabilizing intermediate states during membrane fusion. The high degree of conservation makes it an attractive target for broadly neutralizing antibody development and pan-coronavirus vaccine design.
