Overview

SAYSVFN motif domain containing 1 (SAYSD1) is a protein-coding gene primarily involved in cellular protein quality control mechanisms. Specifically, it acts as a *reader* of UFM1-modified proteins, recognizing and binding to ufmylated ribosomes when a ribosome becomes stalled during protein translation. SAYSD1 promotes the transport of these stalled nascent chains via the TRAPP complex to lysosomes for degradation, contributing to the clearance of defective proteins and stalled translation products. This protein is predominantly located in intracellular, membrane-bounded organelles and is active at the endoplasmic reticulum. While mutations or changes in SAYSD1 have been noted to be associated with corpus luteum cysts, its direct therapeutic relevance, interacting drugs, biomarker status, or recognized safety concerns are not established in current literature[1][11][12].
