Scaffold attachment factor B pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Processed pseudogene
01

Overview

The scaffold attachment factor B pseudogene (ENSG00000254935) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome with sequence homology to the active scaffold attachment factor B gene. Processed pseudogenes arise from reverse transcription of mRNA followed by reintegration into the genome, lack introns, and are generally incapable of generating functional proteins. This pseudogene retains sequence similarity but does not encode an active protein nor participate in typical biological processes and has no established relevance as a therapeutic target. It is generally classified as noncoding “junk DNA” but may be transcribed at low levels; however, there is no evidence that ENSG00000254935 plays a functional biological, pathological, or pharmacological role. If your intent is to study scaffold attachment factor B (SAFB, a functional DNA/RNA-binding nuclear matrix protein), please note that ENSG00000254935 does not encode this protein but represents an inactive copy.
