"Scalp oxygenation" refers to the physiological process by which oxygen is delivered via the bloodstream to the scalp, supplying hair follicles and surrounding tissue with oxygen essential for cellular metabolism, energy production (ATP), and hair growth. Adequate oxygen delivery is necessary for follicle function, particularly for maintaining the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle. Deficiency in scalp oxygenation (hypoxia) is implicated in conditions such as androgenetic alopecia and may cause impaired hair follicle activity, follicle miniaturization, reduced keratin production, and weakened hair shafts. Conversely, therapies that increase scalp oxygenation (such as topical oxygen treatments or interventions to improve microcirculation) are investigated for possible roles in enhancing hair growth and reducing hair loss, but "scalp oxygenation" itself is not a discrete molecular entity, protein, gene, or receptor[1][2][4][5][6][8].
