Overview

SCAN domain containing 2 pseudogene (SCAND2P) is a non-protein-coding genomic sequence in humans, classified as a pseudogene[5][1][2]. SCAND2P is predicted to play roles in transcriptional regulation—possibly by acting as a DNA-binding transcription factor or through noncoding RNA mechanisms influencing RNA polymerase II activity[5][3][4]. The SCAN domain is a protein motif characterizing a subfamily of nuclear Krüppel-like zinc finger proteins, though SCAND2P itself does not encode a functional protein[3]. As with some pseudogenes, there is theoretical potential for participation in gene regulation, including possible influence on cancer progression via microRNA decoy or RNA interference pathways, but there is no direct evidence of SCAND2P’s involvement in disease or clinical applications[4][5]. No drugs interact with SCAND2P, and it is not used as a biomarker. Its identification as a therapeutic target is incorrect: pseudogenes are generally not considered direct drug targets[5][3][4].

Mechanism of action

None applicable. As a pseudogene, SCAND2P is not targeted by drugs via conventional mechanisms

Biological functions

Regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II (predicted)DNA-binding transcription factor activity (predicted)May participate in gene regulation indirectly via noncoding RNA

Disease associations

Other. Although pseudogenes can be involved in cancer and other diseases by regulating coding genes through noncoding RNA mechanisms, there is no specific disease association reported for SCAND2P
