Overview

SCAN domain-containing protein 3 (SCAND3) is a predicted nuclear protein that contains a SCAN domain, which is known to mediate protein–protein interactions typical of many zinc finger transcription factors, and a BED-type zinc finger domain, which is commonly involved in DNA binding and transcriptional regulation[2]. SCAND3 is involved in the positive regulation of the cell cycle and epithelial cell proliferation and is localized to the cytoplasm, but is thought to function in the nucleus as a transcriptional regulator. The gene shares structural similarity to other proteins associated with tumor progression and regulation of complex traits, but direct functional roles and disease associations for SCAND3 itself have not been conclusively established. No therapeutic drugs or active biomarker programs target SCAND3, and its biological function has primarily been inferred from its domain architecture and co-expression data rather than by direct experimental evidence[2].
