The scavenger receptor class B member 1 pseudogene is a DNA segment that is highly homologous to the functional scavenger receptor class B member 1 gene (SCARB1), but contains sequence disruptions such as frameshifts or premature stop codons that prevent it from being translated into a functional protein[2][4][5]. As a pseudogene, it is considered a defunct genomic locus, not encoding a functional protein or acting as a direct therapeutic target. While some pseudogenes may be transcribed into non-coding RNAs with regulatory functions, the majority have no known biological activity[2][4][5]. Pseudogenes like this one may sometimes complicate genetic studies due to high sequence similarity with functional genes, but they are not targets for drugs or direct intervention.
