Overview

SREC-I (scavenger receptor class F member 1) is a type I transmembrane protein belonging to the class F family of scavenger receptors[3][1][5]. It recognizes and binds a broad spectrum of ligands, including acetylated and oxidized forms of LDL, apoptotic bodies, and heat shock proteins, facilitating their endocytosis and degradation[2][3][1][5]. Expressed notably by endothelial cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells, SREC-I participates in lipid metabolism, antigen presentation, innate and adaptive immune responses, and cellular adhesion[1][2][3][5]. Its interaction with TLRs and capacity for cross-presentation of antigens position it as an important link between immunity and homeostasis, with disease associations in inflammation, infection, cancer, and atherosclerosis[1][2][3].
